I’ve created a Python tool that will take Wireless Access Points listed in a CSV file and SSH into a Cisco WLC to bulk rename them.
The instructions are simple, populate the CSV file with the new hostnames of your APs, their MAC Address and (optionally) their serial number. If the APs already have a custom name, just populate the MAC Address field with their current name (and remove the leading ‘AP’ text from the script – as fresh APs have a hostname of APxxxx.xxxx.xxxx).
The tool can be found at on my Github and supports Cisco vWLCs and 9800 WLCs.
